Welcoming our community back to campus

January 31, 2026

Main Administration Building with snow.

Terps,

It’s been quite a week, and we appreciate your patience as we’ve worked through the challenges caused by the recent snowstorm and extreme cold weather. Our whole community has shown resilience as we had to pivot how we learn and work. And our essential workers have been nothing short of extraordinary.

As we welcome everyone back to campus on Monday, we remind you that outside temperatures are still extremely low. Please remember to dress for the weather and navigate campus carefully. Our facilities teams have continued their incredible work so the campus is prepared for the return of our community.

As we return to in-person classes and normal operations, students should direct any questions about specific courses or individual circumstances to course instructors, department chairs, or the Dean of Students office. Employees should direct questions to their supervisors.

Please continue to check umd.edu/weather for updates, resources and guidance we have issued throughout this winter weather event.

Our goal throughout this disruption has prioritized the safety of our community and our academic, co-curricular and research missions, and we thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

Sincerely,
