Guided by the University’s mission of educating students and advancing knowledge in areas of importance to the state, the nation, and the world, Enrollment Management is aligned with the principles of Fearlessly Forward, UMD's vision for impactful and inclusive innovation. Enrollment Management is designed to achieve several key objectives, including the recruitment, admission, enrollment, and support of talented students from diverse backgrounds. The dedicated staff within Enrollment Management is committed to ensuring a seamless and supportive experience for students, aligning their efforts with the goal of creating accessible and affordable educational pathways.

Vision & Mission

Grounded in the Mission of the University of Maryland, our purpose in Enrollment Management is to recruit, admit, enroll and support talented students from diverse backgrounds. Our efforts promote the success of these students who then benefit from and contribute to the intellectual, social and cultural life of the university, their communities and the world. We are student-centered and data-supported professionals committed to designing, implementing and providing the necessary services from pre-enrollment to graduation.

Adrian Cornelius

Adrian R. Cornelius, Ed.D

Executive Director of Enrollment Management and University Registrar

Adrian directs the planning, development, and implementation of strategy and projects for all offices within Enrollment Management and the University Registrar. He is responsible for determining strategic priorities and implementing process improvements in support of the University of Maryland’s mission.

Nora Czumak

Nora Czumak, CPA

Director of Administrative Services

Nora plays a vital role in providing comprehensive assistance in financial operations, human resources, project management, and data analysis. Her expertise ensures that each unit has the resources and insights needed to operate efficiently, enabling them to achieve their goals effectively. 

Vinette Brown-Darlington

Vinette Brown-Darlington

Director of External Relations and the Visit Experience

Vinette leads the strategic planning, execution, and assessment of all projects, events, and outreach initiatives targeting incoming undergraduate students, their families, and counselors. Additionally, she oversees the staffing of the Visit Center, where the team works to enhance the  campus visit experience for prospective students and their families.

Interim Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management

Shannon provides strategic direction and leadership for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. She oversees all aspects of the undergraduate admissions processes, including the key areas of undergraduate recruitment, marketing and communications, admissions events, and visitor services, along with their related operations. Through her strategic guidance, Shannon ensures that each function aligns with the university's mission, advancing its goals to attract and enroll a diverse and talented student body.

Dawit Lemma

Dawit S. Lemma

Director of Office of Student Financial Aid

Dawit is responsible for guiding regulatory compliance, awarding, disbursement, and oversight of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs for the University of Maryland. He is instrumental in the university’s efforts to make students' academic careers both attainable and affordable. 

James Massey

James B. Massey, Jr.

Director of Undergraduate Admissions


As the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, James oversees all aspects of the undergraduate admission process for freshman, transfer and international applicants.  He also is responsible for overseeing domestic and international recruitment, diversity outreach efforts and the merit scholarship awarding process for all freshman and transfer admitted students.  James also collaborates with campus partners and all partners across all units of Enrollment Management to shape each incoming class of students.

Kathy Thomas

Kathy A. Thomas

Director of Assessment and Technology

Kathy oversees strategies for data assessments and technology explorations, implementations, and management throughout the areas of Enrollment Management at the University of Maryland. By overseeing these critical functions, Kathy enhances data-driven decision-making and supports the continuous improvement of enrollment initiatives throughout the university.

UNITS WITHIN ENROLLMENT MANAGEMENT

Office of Undergraduate Admissions

The Office of Undergraduate Admissions is designed to meet the individual needs of prospective students. The office provides general information about the University of Maryland through electronic communications, print materials, website, social media, visit programs, information sessions, campus tours and other personal interactions. Admissions staff evaluate undergraduate freshman and transfer applicants (both international and domestic) in order to shape the entering class of students. Also housed within the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the OUA Visit Center plays a pivotal role in welcoming prospective students and their families to campus. The Visit Center is dedicated to providing an engaging and informative experience, showcasing the university’s offerings and fostering a strong first impression of campus life. Through tours, information sessions, and personalized interactions, the Visit Center supports the university’s recruitment goals by helping prospective students envision their future at the University of Maryland.

Office of Assessment and Technology

The Office of Assessment and Technology oversees strategies for data assessments and technology explorations, implementations, and management throughout the areas of Enrollment Management at the University of Maryland.

Office of Administrative Services

The Office of Administrative Services provides financial, human resources, project management and data analysis support for units in the Division of Administration.

Office of Student Financial Aid

The Office of Student Financial Aid helps students navigate the financial aid process and understand your options. Scholarships, grants, loans and work-study funds are offered based on academic ability and/or financial need as determined by a federal needs analysis system.

Office of the University Registrar

The Office of the University Registrar supports teaching and learning at the University of Maryland by maintaining the integrity of academic policies and the student information system and implementing and providing the necessary services from pre-enrollment to graduation.
