Seeking Grant Proposals to Reimagine Learning at UMD

April 4, 2022

Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

Fearlessly Forward, the University of Maryland Strategic Plan, was released in February of 2022 and describes our vision to move the institution fearlessly forward in pursuit of excellence and impact for the public good. The plan has four main strategic commitments, all with targeted goals and objectives:

  • We reimagine learning.
  • We take on grand challenges.
  • We invest in people and communities.
  • We partner to advance the public good.

Over the course of the next few months, announcements of new programs, investments, and results-driven work related to each commitment will be shared with the campus community. There will be many ways for all members of the campus community to engage with and support this university-wide plan. I encourage you to visit the Strategic Plan website for frequent updates on our progress.

Today I write to announce an exciting program reflecting our commitment to Reimagine Learning. Our strategic plan states that UMD reimagines learning and teaching as inclusive, experiential, publicly engaged, creative, integrative, holistic, and empowering. We remain committed to the continuous transformation and evolution of teaching and learning both in the classroom and in the community.

Today we are launching a new competitive grant program to award funding to educational projects that focus on expanding active and experiential learning, broadly conceived. We are seeking proposals from all disciplines and encourage participants to collaborate internally and externally to maximize our teaching impact and create innovative and meaningful learning experiences.

Applications will be accepted until June 10, 2022. Academic and programmatic units may submit proposals in two different categories: course-level and program-level. For more information about eligibility, funding priorities, key dates, and the submission process, please visit the TLTC website.

I look forward to receiving many qualified submissions that will creatively expand experiential learning opportunities and build innovation in our educational programs. For questions, please contact the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center at tltc@umd.edu.

With gratitude,

Jennifer King Rice
