Appointment of Dr. Megan Madigan Peercy as Special Assistant to the Provost for Strategic Initiatives

Dr. Megan Madigan Peercy

Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Megan Madigan Peercy as Special Assistant to the Provost for Strategic Initiatives. Dr. Peercy will be responsible for providing executive leadership in support of the implementation of the University of Maryland Strategic Plan: Fearlessly Forward: In Pursuit of Excellence and Impact for the Public Good.

Dr. Peercy will work with leaders across campus to drive strategic plan initiatives forward while working with cross-functional teams to assess and track the plan’s progress and outcomes through a set of metrics and evaluative tools. Additionally, she will lead collaborative efforts to cultivate relationships with donors, external partners, and industry leaders to promote and expand ideas generated through strategic initiatives on campus.

Dr. Peercy currently serves as Associate Dean for Undergraduate and Graduate Studies in the UMD College of Education, where she has focused her efforts on supporting the preparation of undergraduate and graduate students to be educators, leaders, and researchers regarding issues that drive education and equity. A faculty member at UMD since 2006, she is a Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning, Policy and Leadership, and she deeply values the opportunity to collaboratively engage with school communities to support the educational experiences of multilingual learners. Her research focuses on the growth and development of teachers and teacher educators, particularly as they work for socially just and humanizing outcomes for linguistically and culturally diverse learners in P-12 settings.

Dr. Peercy is also Co-Director of UMD’s Multilingual Research Center, a member of multiple professional associations in her field, and a member of editorial boards for Journal of Teacher Education and the International Multilingual Research Journal. She earned her Ph.D. in second language education and M.A.T. in Spanish and TESOL at the University of Utah, and her B.S. in Spanish at Trinity University.

Dr. Peercy is a collaborative, organized, and intuitive leader who will use her many strong campus networks to support the continued important work of the Fearlessly Forward Strategic Plan

Please join me in welcoming Dr. Peercy into this new role.

Regards,
