ARS Data Subset
Faculty Appointment information encompasses personal demographic data, educational background, and multiple appointment information for all faculty and exempt appointments within the Academic Affairs division. These data subsets are maintained by the Office of the Senior Vice President and Provost. The following tables in the data warehouse contain appointment related information:
ARS_Employee_Summary
ARS_Employee_Summary contains demographic and applicable faculty related information (tenure, emeritus, etc.) for non-contractual faculty and associate staff personnel within the Academic Affairs Division. Data in this table are downloaded from the Academic Resource System. The common link between ARS_Employee_ Summary and other personnel related tables is UM Id. A person can have only one record in ARS_Employee_Summary.
ARS_Addtl_Cat_Title
ARS_Addtl_Cat_Title contains additional titles associated with a person, and is used for printing the faculty sections of the graduate and undergraduate catalogs. Examples include Distinguished Scholar Teacher, titles for special members of the Graduate Faculty, etc. Data in this table are downloaded from the Academic Resource System. The common link between ARS_Addtl_Cat_Title and other personnel related tables is UM Id. A person can have multiple additional titles in ARS_Addtl_Cat_Title.
ARS_Degree_Information
ARS_Degree_Information contains degree information for a person who has an academic appointment in the Academic Affairs Division or is a member of the Graduate Faculty. Degree information includes earned or honorary degrees, degree dates, and institutions from which degrees were awarded. These data are used for printing of the faculty sections of the graduate and undergraduate catalogs. Data in this table are downloaded from the Academic Resource System. The common link between ARS_Degree_Information and other personnel related tables is UM Id. A person can have multiple degree records in ARS_Degree_Information.
ARS_Appointment_Master
ARS_Appointment_Master contains information associated with a person's academic appointment. Data in this table are downloaded from the Academic Resource System which contains appointment information for all faculty and associate staff appointments (excluding contractual appointments) within the Academic Affairs Division only. Both paid and non-paid appointments are entered in the Academic Resource System. Appointment information includes department, category of appointment (tenured, tenure-track, etc.), type (9.5, 12 mos., etc.), title, effective dates, salary, etc. Appointments are associated with a particular fiscal year. Beginning with Fiscal Year 1994 (7/1/93), there is at least one appointment per person per fiscal year in the Academic Resource System. Prior to FY94, for each tenured and tenure-track faculty member, there are records in ARS_Appointment_Master representing a complete condensed appointment history. ARS_Appointment_Master contains both pending, approved and rejected appointments in the Academic Resource System. The common link between ARS_Appointment_Master and other personnel related tables is UM Id. A person can have multiple appointments (joint, affiliate, academic administrator, etc.) in one or more departments within a fiscal year.
ARS_Acct_Summary
ARS_Acct_Summary contains budget information associated with a person's appointment in the Academic Resource System at the time the appointment was approved. Budget information includes the intended account number(s) from which an appointee is paid, corresponding item numbers if applicable, and the percent paid from each account number. ARS_Acct_Summary records are linked to a corresponding appointment via an appointment sequence number (Appt Seq Num) and UM Id. A person can have multiple account numbers per appointment.
ARS_Course_Summary
ARS_Course_Summary contains courses associated with a person's appointment in the Academic Resource System at the time the appointment was approved. Course information includes the intended course(s) and proposed number of sections which an appointee will teach during the indicated semester. ARS_Course_Summary records are linked to a corresponding appointment via an appointment sequence number (Appt Seq Num) and UM Id. A person can have multiple courses during the effective dates of an appointment. The DW topic SCH_Course_Faculty should be used for the actual teaching activities in which an employee is involved. ARS_Course_Summary is the proposed or expected courses for which a faculty member was hired, but may not be in reality what the faculty member ended up teaching.
ARS_Faculty_Rank
ARS_Faculty_Rank contains information which facilitates the tracking of the progression of tenure-track and tenured faculty through the faculty ranks (assistant professor, associate professor, professor). Included for each faculty member are the effective date at each rank as well as the number of years at each rank. Each faculty member is associated with his/her tenure home and has only one record in the table. The table is secured on tenure home.
SCH_Course_Faculty
SCH_Course_Faculty is a collection of course data organized around the instructional resources of the University. It is designed to be used in conjunction with information obtained from the Academic Resource System (ARS) and the Personnel system (HRS). The information is important to University administrators who are charged to assign, track, and report upon the teaching activities of the institution's faculty, staff and students. This collection makes available data about courses and the teaching activiites associated with the courses. SCH_Course_Faculty should be used for the actual teaching activities in which an employee is involved.
