Volunteer for the Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony

March 10, 2023

Dear University of Maryland Staff,

The campuswide Spring 2023 Commencement Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in SECU Stadium. This university tradition marks the culmination of our student’s academic achievements and degree requirements with pomp, circumstance and celebration!

Commencement is a time to honor our student’s work and accomplishments, and it is made possible through the support and engagement of our entire campus community. Staff participation in the ceremony (and the days leading up to the event) is critically important to its success. I hope you will consider signing up today using this form! Specific roles are detailed on the volunteer information page

Volunteers for the campuswide Commencement Ceremony are needed at the following times:

  • Friday, May 12, 2023 | 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. – Volunteer Informational Luncheon and Rehearsal
  • Monday, May 22, 2023 | 4:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. – Commencement Ceremony (specific times are dependent on role)
    • Inclement Weather Plan: The ceremony will be rescheduled to the same time on the following day (7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23).

In addition to the campuswide Commencement Ceremony, our campus hosts a total of 27 unit-level graduation ceremonies from May 22-24. Volunteers are also needed to staff Information Booths throughout campus on all three of those days. Stationed in tents at locations throughout campus for two-hour time slots, these volunteers provide guidance to our visiting guests for all ceremonies occurring on campus.

Please consider joining us as we celebrate our students' success! Thank you in advance for your support, and for all you do for our campus community.  Go Terps!

Sincerely,

Jennifer King Rice

Senior Vice President and Provost
