Search for Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs

In July, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs John Bertot will transition to his new role as Dean of the College of Information. I am pleased to announce that a search committee has been appointed and the university has launched a search for the next Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs. William A. Cohen, Associate Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Studies, will chair the committee. The complete list of committee members is provided below.
We are seeking an accomplished leader who can support faculty excellence in teaching, research and service, and our overriding commitment to inclusive excellence in all that we do. The successful candidate will provide leadership for the Office of Faculty Affairs as it carries out key functions related to faculty and their appointment, development, evaluation, advancement, and professional well-being. This position serves as a member of the Provost’s senior staff, overseeing the design and implementation of faculty policies and providing direct counsel to the Provost on matters of high importance related to faculty.
The position requires a tenured appointment at the rank of professor in an academic unit and a distinguished record of scholarly and/or creative achievement. A minimum of three (3) years of leadership experience in faculty affairs or equivalent (e.g., chair, associate dean, dean), to include managing and/or directing promotion and tenure reviews at the University of Maryland, College Park campus, is required. The position calls for superior verbal and written communication skills; excellent team management capabilities; a high level of discretion and integrity; the ability to work with various groups and units on campus; a commitment to belonging and inclusion; and expertise in advancing and developing a highly qualified and successful faculty at the University.
