Launching a Second Round of Research Resilience Initiatives

May 07, 2026

Dear Faculty Members and Graduate Students,

In March, we shared the results of our initial round of Research Resilience Initiative awards, which invested a total of $5.25 million in 82 projects spanning more than 30 disciplines across campus. Building on this momentum, we are pleased to announce a second round of funding to further support at-risk faculty, junior scholars, and the sustainability of our research enterprise.

While we continue to navigate a challenging budget environment, these investments are vital to advancing our core mission of research and educational excellence.

This second round of investments spans four programs, which include:

Preserve, Pivot, and Grow Program
This program will invest $3 million to preserve strategic institutional investments, support researchers who choose to pivot their current portfolio, and continue to grow our research enterprise.

  • Strategic Institutional Investments: open June 15, due July 22
  • At-risk Faculty Members and Lab Groups: open June 15, due July 22

MPower Early Scholars Investment Fund
Through this initiative, MPowering the State will invest a total of $1.25 million per year for three years to sustain the scholar pipeline and protect our joint UMD-UMB research enterprise.

  • Junior Tenure-Track Faculty: open May 7, due June 15
  • Doctoral Candidates: open now, due May 11

Visit the Research Resilience Initiatives website to learn more about these programs, including eligibility, requirements, submission processes, and deadlines.

Thank you for your continued dedication to impactful research at the University of Maryland.

Sincerely,
