Congratulating our Research Resilience Awardees
March 03, 2026
Colleagues,
In December, we announced a new set of Research Resilience Initiatives to preserve key institutional capabilities, support at-risk faculty and junior scholars, and position UMD’s research enterprise for sustainable future growth.
We received an extraordinary response across campus, with submissions that showcase a collective commitment to bolstering impactful research. The volume and quality of proposals made clear just how much innovative and important work is happening across our university and made for an inspiring and highly competitive review process.
We are pleased to announce that we are investing a total of $5.25M in 82 projects spanning more than 30 disciplines across campus. These investments come from both UMD and the University of Maryland Strategic Partnership: MPowering the State.
Through these initiatives, we were able to support an incredible group of projects, including:
Preserve, Pivot & Grow Program
- Strategic Institutional Investments: 7 awards totalling $2.4M invested across 6 colleges
- At-Risk Faculty Members and Lab Groups: 18 awards totalling ~$900K invested across 8 colleges
MPower Early Scholars Investment Fund
- Junior Tenure-Track Faculty: 20 awards totalling $1M invested across 9 colleges
- Graduate Students: 31 awards totalling $750K invested across 7 colleges
- Postdoctoral Fellows: 6 awards totalling $225K invested across 5 colleges
Thank you to everyone who took the time to submit proposals. The breadth of the work represented reflects the strength of our research community and shared commitment to sustaining excellence, even when barriers arise. We plan to continue these investments with another round of funding and a call for proposals this spring.
We look forward to seeing how these projects advance UMD’s research enterprise and strengthen our collective public impact.
Sincerely,
Jennifer King Rice
