Announcing the Reappointment of Dean Prabhudev Konana

April 03, 2026

Prabhudev Konana

Dear colleagues,

I am delighted to announce the reappointment of Dr. Prabhudev Konana as Dean of the Robert H. Smith School of Business through June 30, 2031. This decision follows a comprehensive formal review process in accordance with university policy.  An appointed committee of faculty, staff, and students assessed Dean Konana’s strategic and operational leadership in advancing the school’s mission and provided constructive recommendations. The review process included a presentation by Dean Konana on the Smith School’s progress since 2021, a formal survey to support a data-driven evaluation, and a series of interviews and forums with faculty, staff, students, university leadership, and external constituents.

The review highlighted Dean Konana as a strong leader during a period of significant transformation. Most notably, the school is now on a stronger and more sustainable financial footing due to his careful approach to resource management, strategic investments, and cost reductions. He has implemented important actions, such as program-level financial accountability, that have positioned the school for long-term success. Additionally, during his first term, the school’s academic and research profile has been elevated through significant investments in faculty recruitment and support, particularly in emerging priority areas like artificial intelligence.

Dean Konana has been a visible and engaged leader, building strong relationships with donors and corporate partners while presenting the Smith School as a collaborative campus partner. The launch of new programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels has further strengthened enrollment pipelines and enhanced the student experience. His efforts to expand experiential learning, deepen alumni engagement, and achieve record-breaking fundraising underscore his impact over the past five years.

Dean Konana and I have discussed the review and opportunities to advance the Smith School mission in his next term in his second term. While his achievements are significant, the review also identified opportunities. We discussed the importance of identifying a set of annual initiatives to serve as clear, focused priorities for the Smith School, ensuring alignment across the leadership team and strengthening their execution. He will also advance a leadership approach that promotes organizational effectiveness and a strong, supportive culture. Ultimately, the Dean and his team will continue to work toward a unified, community-driven approach that deepens engagement, grows partnerships, and advances a shared long-term vision.

I am grateful for Dean Konana’s impactful leadership and am confident that he will continue to drive the Robert H. Smith School of Business toward new heights of excellence.
