Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center

Exterior of the Edward St. John Teaching and Learning Center

The Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center (ESJ) features fourteen general purpose classrooms and nine state-of-the art chemistry teaching labs, complimented by a wide variety of informal collaborative learning and study spaces throughout the building. All fourteen TERP Classrooms are designed to support active-learning/team-based pedagogies.

ESJ also serves as home to the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Teaching and Learning Transformation Center, and the Academic Technology and Innovation team from the Division of IT.

The University of Maryland is committed to creating classroom environments that support team-based and collaborative modes of teaching and learning. The goal in creating these new and renovated spaces around our campus is to promote student-centered teaching practices by creating technology-enhanced environments that enable every person in the classroom to teach, engage, respond, and participate.
