Announcing Dr. R. Tyrone Jackson as the Executive Director of Human Resources, Development, and Engagement

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that Dr. R. Tyrone Jackson will be joining the Office of the Provost as the Executive Director of Human Resources, Development, and Engagement. Dr. Jackson has over 30 years of human resources experience that spans across the military, government, health care, public service and education fields. Much of his previous work focused on the development of human resource policy, personnel management, and employee/employer relations. Most recently he served as Interim Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources role for Arlington County Public Schools. He has also led HR offices at the District of Columbia Courts, the City of Richmond, and three Virginia State agencies, and while serving in the United States Army.

As Executive Director, Dr. Jackson will work collaboratively with key stakeholders across the university to provide executive level human resources administration, strategic planning, direction and innovation for the Division of Academic Affairs. His work will align divisional human resources priorities to the commitments of the university strategic plan, Fearlessly Forward, especially related to the area of investing in people and communities. His areas of focus will include the establishment of a plan to enhance and encourage professional development activities, exploring ways to diversify hiring pools, enhancing the onboarding and offboarding processes, and serving as the division’s liaison with University Human Resources to weigh in on policies and procedures that will impact university employees. He will serve as the division’s expert on issues related to compensation, benefits, performance management, and employee relations.

We are confident that Dr. Jackson’s collaborative approach to leadership and energetic, professional demeanor will be of great benefit to our division and university. He will start on April 24, 2023. Please join us in welcoming him to campus!
